It can be tempting to use cheaper generic consumables, BUT as the saying goes: “Goedkoop is Duurkoop”. You may think you are saving on cost, but off-brand generics can cause you some serious headaches.

QUALITY

Genuine OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) consumables are meticulously formulated to give the best print results, and are backed by the manufacturer. Generic consumables typically do not adhere to the same specifications, which can cause sub-standard print quality. The incorrect composition of generic inks may also cause fading and smudging.

IS LESS MORE?

While the initial price of third party consumables can be appealing, you will most likely not achieve the guaranteed yields that you would with the genuine product. So even though you may save a bit on the cost per cartridge, you could end up paying more by having to replace the cartridges more often.

COLOUR

Along with quality issues, generic consumables may present you with colours that don’t quite match what you were expecting. If you want to ensure that you get the best results, it is always better to use the OEM Genuine consumables which undergo stringent quality checks and controls.

HEALTH

Many generic consumables do not undergo the thorough testing and compliance checks that OEM consumables are subjected to. Because of this, the off-brand “compatible” generics may contain harmful particles, total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) or even dangerous chemicals in their composition.

WARRANTY

The unknown quality of generic inks may cause leaks, particulate build up and clogs inside of your printer, which can result in damage to the printheads and the print engine. The drums and ink pumps on duplicators are also susceptible to potential damage arising from the use of untested consumables. The costs to repair these issues can be astronomical.

Remember, even if your printer is still under warranty, the manufacturer warranty is voided if your printer is damaged by using generic off-brand consumables. The repair bills will be straight out of pocket, with no recourse to the manufacturer.
